For those doubters, I believe this hypothetical scenario serves a couple of useful purposes;
1. It further illustrates the flawed policies of the WTS.
2. It further illustrates the lack of Holy Spirit within the WTS.
3. Some find that pondering such things is entertaining!
That said, I do believe that there are some who may have left, who may even be posters here, that might one day, for whatever reason, WANT to go back. To automatically deem someone "stupid" for wanting to or for even thinking that someone might want to puts us in the same mentality of JWs themselves, does it not? They think it "stupid" for someone to want to leave. If we automatically adopt the thinking that it is stupid to want back in, we are no better than they are. Right or wrong, we all have freedom of choice. I might think someone is stupid for liking peanuts so much, but does that REALLY make them stupid? No more than if someone thinks I'm stupid for liking chocolate so much! Besides, some people might think that carrying out such a scenario might be the only way or the best way to help family or friends or just ANYONE in general to see the WTS for what it really is so they too can get out! I don't see it as any different than the military or the CIA sending in undercover agents to infiltrate an enemy to undermine them. Geez, can't a guy do some wild, creative thinking without getting bashed for it? I thought that's why we all come here instead of going to the WT meetings!!!

Hypothetical scenario...
by The Last Nephilim inthe "judicial loophole" thread gave me a thought- what would happen if someone faded a la moving far away but then later decided to start all over again and pretend to know nothing about jws and go through the motions of becoming a jw again?
would there be a record of your first baptism on file at hq?
if so, what if you deny that it's you, that someone else just has the same name?

Why would anyone go back? Can you imagine the stunned looks on the faces of the entire congregation if you went through all the motions of studying, becoming a publisher, getting baptized, pioneering, being appointed as a MS, then an elder (PO would be nice), then maybe start partaking at the memorial, and then when everyone thinks all is well, you tell them all that it was just an experiment to prove that Holy Spirit does not direct the GB and the organization!? Don't tell me you don't think it would be priceless!!! It would be neat if that sort of thing happened in congregations all over the world!

And the part when he's sitting at the table and his mom steps out for a few seconds and when she comes back, all the cupboard doors are open and the boy's sweaty hands are flat on the table, indicating that he hadn't moved at all!!! An 19th century vampire, just like the ones in "Interview With the Vampire". As a kid I remember always being a vampire on Halloween except one year when I went as Frankenstein. Some people call it a fetish, but I don't know...

Do Elders pay attention to who's missing the meetings and how often?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inelders are very busy before and after the meetings.
they have many parts during the ministry school.
they have elder meetings after the meetings are over.

LoverOfTruth- "Everybody notices when other miss meetings and they talk about them to others."
LOL So true! Especially when you have an ex mother-in-law who's DF'd daughter blames you for her inability to get reinstated! -

Would there be a record of your first baptism on file at HQ? If so, what if you deny that it's you, that someone else just has the same name? What if you were to follow through and become an elder or pioneer? If you get that far, what if you announce in front of the new cong what you've accomplished through your deception! Thoughts, anyone?

In my cong it seems to depend on who you are. For instance, there are some who are reaching out for MS or elder. Depending on who you are (and, I think, whether the PO likes you or not), you might be able to miss a meeting here and there without risk of losing the chance to be appointed. There are others, however, who will not be considered if they miss one meeting by the next CO visit.
Another example- There is a certain DF'd person who seems to think their chance of getting RI is pretty good despite this person's lack of attending ANY bookstudies and frequently missing the School/Service meetings and the Sunday AM meetings. The last time this person met with the elders, they just told them that they're doing good, just wait a little while longer! (This person committed SERIOUS sins over and over while concealing it for YEARS, hence the "wait a little longer"). Do the elders notice/care if this person misses meetings? Will this person's meeting attendance factor into their bid to be reinstated? Evidently not- cronyism at its best!
Yet another example- There is a man who is a racial minority and a single father of two young children who has struggled financially over the last few years but has attended meetings (comments, too), been through the Knowledge book, the require brochure, The Daniel book, the Worship book, and the Bible teach book. He told me that he has already made his personal dedication to Jah, but the elders keep declining to make him an unbaptized publisher because of his meeting attendance. THIS GUY HAS NOT MISSED ONE SINGLE MEETING SINCE MAY and missed very few before that! While this bothers the guy somewhat, he is still loyal to the org. Go figure!
I also had a conversation with an elder who is of the "annointed" once about MS and elder appointments. He said that there are some who just won't "cut it" as a MS, and he actually named a brother as an example! Quote; "Brother <so-and-so> will never be a ministerial servant". What a crappy thing to say about someone!!! Especially since this elder just moved to our cong a few months ago and doesn't really know anyone that well yet! It makes me wonder if he's just repeating what some of the other elders have said. The thing is, Brother <so-and-so> once WAS a MS years ago.
So I guess it just boils down to what the elders' agenda is. If they have a personal reason to notice your attendance, they will. Otherwise, you're just a number on the attendance count! -

Lurkers! What criticisms of the Watchtower org do you allow?
by PopeOfEruke inany jw's here?
just wondering what criticisms of the jw organisation you allow yourselves to ponder?
we all know that we were taught that the organisation is not perfect, but most jw's i know refuse to acknowledge any criticism of any kind.
-
The Last Nephilim
I'm pretty new here, so I have to guess that a "lurker" is someone who comes to read, but doesn't reply or post, possibly because they are still in the org but have entertained doubts, right? I'm still in the org and not fully ready to give it up myself, but also have young children who were raised in it to do a lot of explaining to if I left, especially since their DF'd mother is trying to get back in and would use my leaving the org as another excuse to keep the kids from me. Here are some things I think are right about JW doctrine;
1. There is no trinity
2. Hell is the grave
3. People don't have souls, they are souls
4. There will be an earthly paradise
These four just about cover anything else doctrinally that might come up.
Things I am critical of include;
1. Meaning of and identity of the "faithful and discreet slave"
2. Articles such as the "Question Box" in the September "Kingdom Ministry" which tell us we can't do independent bible study or research and that all of our
info must come from the "FDS"
3. The "cronyism" that I have witnessed in my congregation and which many others have confirmed goes on in theirs as well.
4. 99% of your value as a JW depends on your field service time. 10+ hourse a month buys you any privilege you can possibly qualify for. under 10 hours means
you're just there to boost attendance.
5. Jesus = Michael the archangel. I clearly see the org's reasoning on this, but in my eyes there is still room for doubt.
6. The 144,000. Not that I disagree so much with the possibility that this is a literal number, but how do we know who they really are, and why, in some cases,
elders have been known to convince some that they are mistaken and that they shouldn't partake at the memorial. This seems odd.
7. Many other WTS policies. I don't think there should be an "elder" book that the rest of the congregation isn't allowed to see. I don't think the WTS should
send the elders letters that aren't shared with the whole congregation UNLESS it is pertaining to a specific judicial matter that is no one else's business.
That's my 2 cents for now! -

Exciting announcements at service meeting
by truthseeker inwe've already had a post on this, but there were other interesting comments.. the brother giving the announcements said that there would be a new understanding of jesus' reference to the generation as discussed at the annual meeting.. an elder giving a service meeting part review of different watchtower articles from the current year brought out the new light concerning 1935.. he asks: "when is the sealing of the anounted ones?".
elder answers: "there is no specific date".
later after the meeting, i asked an elder if the new understanding of the remnant now meant that younger people could go to heaven.. he answered with an affirmative "yes" and that we would be getting the new understanding of the generation jesus spoke of in a future 2008 watchtower.. .

I'm not sure what it all means, but I spoke to a friend of mine from Bethel yesterday and he told me about this "new light" briefly. If I understood him correctly, he was explaining to me that the "generation" referred to in Matthew 24:34 now means the anointed class, and that they will not all be "transferred" to heaven when Armageddon breaks out- some will go through Armageddon with the "other sheep". I may not be grasping all that he told me or he may not be remembering the info, but this is what I gathered from our conversation. I guess we'll see when it's officially announced!
